At about 3:00 this morning, I woke up with something in my head. I was into it enough that I almost convinced myself that I would remember it in the morning, but I managed to pull myself out of bed and record it. Good thing. I woke up this morning and played it back, and even though all the details were lost from my head, I managed to get the whole thing down. So I feel like I'm already up on today.

Day three was a mixed bag. Some wasted time on a track that went nowhere, and then some unexpected success from a track that I wasn't really anticipating yielding much. This is going in a different direction than I anticipated it would go, which is a great feeling.

Day two is going well. The lecture last night was pretty cool - Martin's book (and subsequently, his Powerpoint presentation) is all about touring, and it's hard for me to focus on that at the same time as practicing and laying new material down, but eventually I'm sure I'll go back in my mind and learn something from the experience. The big take home point seemed to be that you should always put "Jesus +1" on the guest list for any show. I couldn't really figure out what that meant, though.

Day one of exhaustive writing is going well. There's going to be a lot more grunting on the new material, so look forward to that. I'll be taking a break to go to to this lecture Martin Atkins is giving tonight at 5 at Lit Lounge in support of his book about touring and being a smart band and stuff. We're going to have a comp to give out there, which contains much lusted-after rarities and promotional tracks. Come on out.
